Software & Systems Quality Conference Germany

Image
The Software & Systems Quality Conference (SQC) is Europe’s leading conference on software quality management, testing and process optimisation. Its continued growth since the first conference in 1996 bears testimony to the importance which IT managers and specialists attach to it. Besides conferences in Ireland, UK, Australia and Switzerland the SQC Germany offers a wide platform for professional exchange of experiences as reflected by the 800 plus delegates who attended the 2008 conference at the Congress Center Dusseldorf. From 26 to 29 May 2009, SQC will offer industry specialists a combination of presentations, keynotes and workshops covering a wide range of sectors, as well as an exhibition.

Online certification: testingsense

Willing to make a break from certification questions. However that is not easy. Found another topic for reading - online certification . There are two certifications, available online: Software Testing Fundamentals and Testing Expert Certification . Tried to do the fundamentals test. Scored 65percent, and did not reach the required 70. After taking test I will not able to get another ticket for next 3 months. What I did not like about the site - could not find the material for exam questions. Do not believe in opinion, that every tester should know the terms, used in the test. And there were some, that I saw first time. So, you may try to do the exam. Maybe will be succesful and print out your certificate. Although I believe there should be better online certification sites for testers :)

How to study for ISEB foundation

While studying for ISEB foundation in software testing, googled a lot how to study :) Although did not find tips for the exam questions, some posts on preparation were very useful. Most of all liked this one . (Keyword for browsing 'how to prepare for ISEB foundation) There are also sample exam papers, check this blog . (Keyword for browsing: sample ISEB foundation) Suggested steps for studying: 1. Read the syllabus; 2. Read the book ; 3. Do sample exam papers; 4. Review the book and syllabus again.

news in Lithuania testing market

One of the first companies, offering testing services, has opened its website www.testuotojai.lt. Congratulations! "Testuotojai" means ‘the testers’ in Lithuanian language. The same as my blog's address - "testavimas" is for testing. As they wrote, team has been working as software testers and now trying to do this as independent people, not a part of any IT company. The services description seems quite narrow for me, but ok, as it is the beginning. The number of testers, together with the ads looking for software testing or QA specialists, has been really increasing in the last years. So, the birth of a company like this is a really natural development of software testing market in Lithuania.

apie ISEB sertifikavimą LT

Sorry, english readers, this post only in lithuanian. Lietuviams testuotojams: nebloga kolegos nuoroda apie testuotojų sertifikavimąsi , išskirtinai ISEB, ne ISTQB.
Reaching the end of a job interview, the human resources person asked a QA engineer fresh out of the community college , "And what starting salary were you looking for?" The engineer said, "In the neighborhood of $125,000 a year, depending on the benefits package." The interviewer said, "Well, what would you say to a package of 5-weeks vacation, 14 paid holidays, full medical and dental, company matching retirement fund to 50% of salary, and a company car leased every 2 years - say, a red Corvette?" The Engineer sat up straight and said, "Wow! Are you kidding?" And the interviewer replied, "Yeah, but you started it."

2008 - Software Testing - An ISEB Foundation

at last the book came to our office. have read first part of it in the web, it is interesting. hope the situation will be better comparing to "testing practitioner"

testing future 10 years ago

found a ten year old presentation in the web - 'Software Testing.Past, Present, and Future' . from today's point of view - the whole presentation is already past. check and agree with me that the date mayb be changed to 2008. many things detailed there are still true.

just a quick thought

just a quick thought about tester's role in project management and product quality. critical! project team all contributes to the project success, but the end of the process seems belonging to developers and testers. am i right?

test case design: do's

The Do’s: 1. Identify test cases for each module 2. Write test cases in each executable step. 3. Design more functional test cases. 4. Clearly identify the expected results for each test case 5. Design the test cases for workflow so that the test cases follow a sequence in the web application during testing. For example for mail applications say yahoo, it has to start with a registration process for new users, then signing up, composing mail, sending mail etc. 6. Security is high priority in web testing. Hence document enough test cases related to application security. 7. Develop a trace ability matrix to understand the test case coverage with the requirements just a paste form the article. What i already do - 1, 2, 4. 3 - do not understand what the auhtor means. long worflow is rather rear - 5, 6- seldom do security testing - only authorization and roles. 7 would be a good practise - but that is a must only for bigger projects. missed one requirement in test cases set in a

„Suggest me what to learn for this field“

Image
„Suggest me what to learn for this field“ – how to change the career to software testing. There is huge amount information on the web. Search google or any other search engine for keywords – software testing, testing or tester. And here you are – hundreds of links, articles, posts, etc. The problem is – where to find the most concentrated material for studying. Articles, magazines and blogs are ok, especially on specific topic. To see the full view of software testing field you need a book or a few of them. Try British Computer Society software testing certifications learning material. The syllabuses and the list of references – standards and books should help to learn more (and a lot) in this field.

how to test web services

How to test web services? the only answer i know at the moment - use SoapUI. An open-source GUI for easily creating and firing off SOAP requests. You need: to feed the WSDL - entering the url, the program creates sample SOAP requests for you; you edit those in a simple XML editor; send it to see the response. (For today, have not got the proper response. The database needs to be changed. Will see the results later)

on Testing in youtube

Made a discovery this morning. Was too lazy to read the book „the testing practitioner“, mentioned in previous post. And felt a desire to listen to something on Software testing topic. Yes! The internet! Of course – the YouTube site. Well, did not do the big research what to look at, took on the first - Google Tech Talks, December 9, 2005, Agile testing by Elisabeth Hendrickson. My impressions – first, it is very interesting to find out one more source of information. Feels like participating at the conference. Will come back for sure and do some more watching and listening the other day. The topic itself, agile testing. Am not familiar with it, and especially after the teaching feel it is something different I am working with. What I caught up, the agile testing is something anti-classical approach to testing, everyone is testing and testers are the developers, there are many iterations with the releases, all of them tested and working fine, there is much about test automati

book: The Testing Practitioner

Image
over a week have a book on my table, The Testing Practitioner. found at our office library. seems to be more serious than fun. It is a collection of works from 24 authors on various topics. Like test and risk management, reviews, incident management, people, test process improvements and other. have you read it?

nightmare

Nightmare of a tester - you have got a software without bugs. test and can not find any :) Before every new project feel light fear not to find anything...

What is hot in the testing field?

Had a look at some conferences advertised on the web. ( US testers are lucky – so many software testing events.) If you are wondering what is hot now – just check the conference programs (or job ads. well, its not the topic of the post..). Test Management, Test Techniques, Metrics, Performance Testing, Reviews & Inspections are more classical topics. And here – some showing the changes in the field: Testing Web Sites/Applications , Test Automation, Automating Test Execution, Exploratory Testing, and Agile Testing... Seems the first South East European Software Testing Conference SEETEST 2008 will not answer those questions. Although there is a remarkable need to gather testing professionals and interested in Software Software quality to one place. The conference is more concentrated on practical everyday topics in the testers job. Test Design: Specifying Test Cases, Software Testing Essentials, Methodology for structured software testing and an example test strategy

my testing adventures - effectiveness

If you check the date of recent posts , you will see that this is the third post today. My colleague smiles - it is friday, too difficult to work when you know three days of rest are waiting ahead. Today is a reading day, so the next thing I found in one blog - testing metrics. The authour lists a few of them. the most interesting for me - " Number of customer reported Bug - As a measure of testing effectiveness". Ok. The effectiveness of testing.... Let's see - my first project here, small and my independent work as a tester. pilot project :) Total issues registered for the project - 164; Total bugs - 119; Client reported issues - 27; Client bugs - 21; Some of them seem quite 'strange' for me and I simply can not call them "bug", so will leave - 10 bugs with low priority. So, what we have for my testing effectiveness? 10 of 119? Less than 9 percent. What is the 'normal' and accepted rate? Can not find anything on that topic in the web for a mome

exploratory testing (ET)

wow, this is a new concept for me and to tell the truth, the topic i find very interesting. exploratory testing (ET) - simultaneous learning, test design and test execution. The tester thinks, learns, improves his test design, learns, thinks, etc. Previously called ad-hoc testing. Have been working on this for a few years :) Search wikipedia for more, or find some James Bach or Jonathan Kohl articles on the topic.

careeer

Thinking about sotfware testing process and improvements, so search the web for some info. The best thing is - developing a testing maturity model. Found out, that at the moment, our company works at level 3, Initial, Phase definition and integration. Still left space for growth - 4 (management and measurement) and 5 (optimization, defect prevention and quality control). While, CMM level 2 supports only up to 3 level of TMM, the wish to go further with the TMM may have obstacles. Anyway, it was interesting to read some articles. CMM and TMM are also parallel to five phase model of an i ndividual tester's maturity growt h. not much info on that. Tester's growth and carer .

wikipedia about testware

Testware is a sub-set of software with a special purpose, that is, for software testing, especially for software testing automation. In this sense, automation Testware is designed to be executed on automation frameworks. It includes artifacts produced during the test process required to plan, design, and execute tests, such as documentation, scripts, inputs, expected results, set-up and clear-up procedures, files, databases, environment, and any additional software or utilities used in testing. Testware is produced by both verification and validation testing methods. Like software, Testware includes codes and binaries as well as test cases, test plan, test report and etc. Testware should be placed under the control of a configuration management system, saved and faithfully maintained. Compared to general software, testware is special because it has: a different purpose; different metrics for quality and different users The different methods should be adopted when you develop testware

news from ISEB

Some news. ISEB are now able to offer the following qualifications: Intermediate Certificate in Software Testing This qualification bridges the gap between foundation level and practitioner level, and addresses the need for the candidate to adopt a different approach in thinking than that required at foundation level. Practitioner Certificate in Test Management Enables testing practitioners to gain professional recognition for advanced level skills in the managerial aspects of testing. Practitioner Certificate in Test Analysis This qualification enables testing practitioners to gain professional recognition for advanced level skills in the more technical, analytical aspects of testing. These were created because of the gap between previous Foundation and Practitioner Certificates. Also testers tend to specialise in either the management
